2025 Cotillion Program

PARTICIPATION ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to participate in the Cotillion Scholarship Program, a young lady must:​

  • Live in the Durham, NC surrounding area.
  • Be single and never married.

  • Be a current junior or senior in high school.

  • Have plans to attend a post-secondary educational institution.

  • Submit a completed Cotillion Scholarship Program Application packet, which includes:
    • ​Application with non-refundable $50.00 fee.

    • Enrollment verification form (at conclusion of program to receive scholarship).

    • 2 Recommendation forms.

    • Be willing to commit time and effort to participate in the Debutante Cotillion Program activities and events and the Cotillion Ball preparation activities.

PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES

  • All Debutantes and their parents/guardians are expected to read and sign all forms required to participate in the Cotillion Scholarship Program. 

  • Participate in planned workshops, activities and events.

  • Adhere to all procedures outlined in the Cotillion Scholarship Handbook.

  • Adhere to financial and participation guidelines outlined in the Cotillion Scholarship Handbook.

  • Actively raise funds for the Cotillion Scholarship Program for post-secondary financial assistance.

  • Participate in all Cotillion Scholarship Ball Rehearsals (mandatory).

  • Secure Junior and Senior Marshal for Cotillion Scholarship Ball (see Cotillion Ball Participants section).

  • Attend the Pink Rose Luncheon.

  • Adhere to the attire and presentation requirements for the Cotillion Scholarship Ball.

MENTORING
COUNCIL

  • Create a relationship with the Debutante by getting to know her, her goals and aspirations.

  • Provide guidance in understanding the procedures and guidelines of the Cotillion Scholarship Program.

  • Attend and participate in Cotillion Scholarship Program activities.

  • Provide encouragement and positive feedback while serving as a role model during this important time in the Debutante’s personal development.

Purpose and Objectives

Since 1991, the Alpha Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Cotillion Scholarship Program has provided a spectacular platform of cultural enrichment and empowerment for young ladies to be successful during their transition from high school to post-secondary education.  We are committed to providing our Debutantes and their families with a very rewarding and memorable experience.

The objectives of the Cotillion Scholarship Program are for the Debutantes to:

  • Participate in workshops geared towards skill enhancement, confidence building and knowledge acquisition.

  • Participate in service projects which provide the Debutantes with an opportunity to use their time, talents and skills to help others within their communities and to see the impacts that their contributions have on others and on themselves.

  • Attend cultural events to expose the Debutantes to various forms of art.

  • Form lasting friendships with other young ladies.

  • Be presented to society at an elegant and memorable Cotillion Scholarship Ball.

Application Process
Required forms (application, enrollment verification, and two recommendations) must be completed, signed, and received (online or by mail) along with a 

$50 non-refundable application fee.
